Jul 15, 2009 · Q: I am trying to hook up a PS3 on my network. For some reason when I go though the setup it cannot obtain an IP address and I cannot figure out why. There are no DHCP reservations for the IP address I used statically. I tried another device at the shop location a Latitude laptop, and it pulls an IP address no problem. I get the animated network icon, showing the "Acquiring network address" message but there is an IP Address and the connection, running at speed of 100Mbps, seems to be working fine - I can check emails and browse, although I wonder if I'm running a little slow. Every time a computer or console reboots it asks the router for an ip address. The router then hands it an ip address that has not already been handed out to another computer or console. This is important to note. When you set your PS3 to a static ip address, the router does not know that the PS3 is using that ip address.
